OREANDA-NEWS. April 23, 2009. The Review Conference on the implementation of the documents of the World Conference against Racism (Durban Review Conference) being held in Geneva has considered an outcome document which is a comprehensive program to prevent, combat and eradicate all forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, including their contemporary forms and manifestations.

The constructive mood of the conference participants was facilitated in large part by the statement of the Russian delegation, which pointed out the need to consolidate the efforts of the world community in fighting racism and racial discrimination. In particular, it also emphasized that a flare-up of xenophobia, disunity and interethnic tension has been observed in a number of countries, serving as a breeding ground for neo-Nazism. Falling hostage to this situation are national minorities, most often being faced with diverse manifestations of discrimination.

The outcome document of the conference, prepared under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation, was adopted on April 21 without a vote. This document provides a good basis for the further development and streamlining of the national legislations and law enforcement practices of the UN member countries.
