OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2009. A telephone conversation took place on March 10 between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and PRC Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi.

In discussing the situation in Northeast Asia, both sides expressed concern about tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The ministers called on the corresponding states to show restraint and composure, and to refrain from any actions that could undermine security and stability in this region. Russia and China want all contentious questions to be resolved peacefully by political and diplomatic means via consultations and negotiations.

An exchange of views also took place on a schedule of Russian-Chinese contacts and on some other topical questions of the international agenda.
