Turkmen and Afghan Leaders Met at 10th ECO Summit
OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2009. In the framework of the 10th ECO Summit Meeting President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held the talks with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai.
Exchanging the heartfelt greetings and expressing statistician at the opportunity of a personal meeting the leaders of the neighbouring countries exchanged views on the priority fields of cooperation and progress of the bilateral agreements.
Hamid Karzai expressed profound gratitude to the Turkmen leader for overall support and assistance to the Afghani people in building the peaceful life and promoting the social and economic progress. The Afghani leader said that the people of Afghanistan were sincerely grateful to the Turkmen brothers and highly appreciated neighbouring Turkmenistan’s contribution to maintaining global peace and security.
Emphasizing that the spiritual and cultural affinities of two peoples was the reliable foundation for strengthening Turkmen-Afghani partnership Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan stood ready to further contribute to Afghanistan’s economic progress through implementing the construction projects.
The sides harmonized the specific steps to further expand partnership particularly in the fuel and energy and transport sectors and considered the aspects of humanitarian cooperation. The Presidents reaffirmed the adherence to the policy of friendship and good neighbourliness in the interests of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan and the entire region.
