OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2009. On the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Speaker of the Mejlis A. Nurberdieva received the credential letters from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to Turkmenistan Mrs. Margaret Twomey.

On behalf of the Turkmen leader the head of the Turkmen PArliement congratulated the guest on appointing to the high diplomatic post and wished success in enhancing the ties of friendship and cooperation between Turkmenistan and Australia.

During the conversation Mrs. Margaret Twomey was briefed on the major trends in Turkmenistan’s domestic and foreign policies aimed at establishing and maintaining mutually advantageous cooperation with all countries worldwide as well as the large-scale national programmes and projects initiated by the Turkmen leader in various sectors of the national economy. The talks focused on the work of the Parliament, its role and contribution to the ongoing democratic processes and legal reform.

Putting emphasis on the existing profound potential of mutually advantageous cooperation the diplomat shared the plans to discuss the perspectives of partnership during the talks with the Government of Turkmenistan. In particular, the Ambassador called for establishing fruitful collaboration in oil and gas industry. Special attention was given to the significance of close partnership in the framework of the large international organisations, in particular United Nations.

In conclusion the sides expressed belief that in the near future the Turkmen-Australian relations would be brought to a new level meeting the reciprocal interests and potential.
