OREANDA-NEWS. February 20, 2009. The visit to Belarus was very fruitful, Javier Solana, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Secretary-General of both the Council of the European Union, told reporters in Minsk on February 19.
“We had a very constructive talk with the President of Belarus. We discussed the interaction and future prospects. We talked what we need to do to improve the relations between Belarus and the EU and discussed the issues related to the Eastern Partnership initiative,” Javier Solana said.

He expressed hope that the visit will be the beginning of a deeper and closer interaction between the European Union and Belarus.

“I did not come here to lay down any conditions. We talked exclusively in a friendly and constructive atmosphere,” Javier Solana said.
