President of Turkmenistan Met with New Head of OSCE Office in Ashgabat
OREANDA-NEWS. On 19 February 2009 was announced, that Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the newly appointed head of the OSCE office in Ashgabat, Arsim Zekolli.
The guest conveyed greetings and a letter of the OSCE Secretary General, Mark Perren de Brishambo, to the president of Turkmenistan, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat.
"Neutral Turkmenistan is acting as an anchor of stability in Central Asia, and is one of the OSCE's key partners in the region," Arsim Zekolli said. He noted the high level of partnership relations between Turkmenistan and OSCE in the context of peace and security.
"Our partnership with OSCE is constructive and very important from the point of view of consolidating efforts to find solutions to urgent problems of our times," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. He emphasized that one of these problems was ensuring energy security as a strategic factor of global sustainable development.
The president of Turkmenistan conveyed invitation to the OSCE Secretary General for an international conference related to energy transit security scheduled for April this year in Ashgabat. This forum is expected to develop specific approaches to cooperation in the framework of a special UN resolution adopted at Turkmenistan's initiative, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.
