Kremlin Hosts Eurasian Economic Community Summit
OREANDA-NEWS. February 4, 2009. Taking part in the special session of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) Interstate Council are President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan (Armenia has observer status in EurAsEC), and Secretary General of EurAsEC Tair Mansurov.
EurAsEC was founded in 2000 by five countries – Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. Uzbekistan joined the organization in 2006, but suspended its membership in 2008.
