Russia and Finland to Strengthen Police Cooperation in Border Areas
OREANDA-NEWS. January 27, 2009. The Russian and Finnish Ministries of Interior have agreed to strengthen control in border areas, where crimes within high technology and economics are on the rise.
Russian Minister of Interior Rashid Nurgaliyev and his Finnish colleague Anne Holmlund have met in Helsinki to discuss further cross-border cooperation on the fight against organized crime.
A study of crime rates in borders areas show a tendency to rising numbers of crimes connected with high technology and economics. Other crimes that trouble the Russian and Finnish ministers are trafficking, narcotics, smuggling, piracy and laundering.
The parts emphasized the need for cooperation within education and training of personnel, and agreed to prepare and sign a protocol on cooperation between police academies in the two countries.
