OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2009. Accompanied by President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, the head of the Russian state toured one of the monuments from the Middle Ages, the Ulugbek Observatory, as well as the mausoleum of Khodja Daniyar.

Then the presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan visited Registan Square in the old part of the city, and toured the tomb of Timur and the mausoleum of Gur-Emir.

Dmitry Medvedev and Islam Karimov also visited Samarkand's bazaar and some artisans' workshops.
