OREANDA-NEWS. On December 22, Russian-American consultations on Latin American problems were held in Moscow, in which Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov and US Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Shannon took part.

Discussions focused mainly on the increased role of the states of Latin America and the Caribbean Basin in the international arena, active participation of the Latin American countries in world economic processes and the intensification of integration processes in the region. A detailed exchange of views took place on the current state of, and prospects for Russian and US bilateral relations with the LACB states.

In this connection the Russian side reaffirmed its principled disposition towards the full-format building-up of the entire range of ties with LACB and consistent reinforcement of their trade and economic component. The American side was informed about the outcomes of the recent visits of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Peru, Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba.

Agreement was reached to continue such consultations.
