OREANDA-NEWS. December 16, 2008. A meeting took place in New York on December 15 between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Somali Republic Ali Ahmed Jama.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on the range of issues relating to Somalia settlement. The sides reiterated the necessity of achieving a lasting national reconciliation in Somalia in the interests of reinforcing security and stability in the region.

The problem of combating piracy off the Horn of Africa coast was discussed in detail.
