OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2008. Dmitry Medvedev signed federal laws ratifying two agreements concluded within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO).

The Agreement on the Establishment of a Command System for the Forces and Means of the CSTO Collective Security System was signed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on October 6, 2007. The agreement regulates the formation and functioning of a command system established to ensure the effective work of the forces and means of the CSTO collective security system in peace and in war, and is built around elements of the armed forces command systems that already exist in the CSTO member states.

The Agreement on Rapid Equipment of Territory and Joint Use of CSTO Member States’ Military Infrastructure Facilities was signed in Astana, Kazakhstan, on June 18, 2004. The agreement’s aim is to establish mechanisms for rapid reaction to regional and international security threats that might arise. The agreement regulates the joint use of military infrastructure in the collective security region by the CSTO member states’ armed forces and sets out the financing procedures for measures undertaken as part of rapid equipment of territories.

The CSTO members are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
