OREANDA-NEWS. On September 24, a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the ARE Ahmed Aboul Gheit took place in New York on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly.

During the conversation, topical international and regional problems were discussed. A special place was held by matters relating to the prospects for Arab-Israeli settlement. The ministers spoke firmly in support of ensuring the irreversibility of the Palestinian-Israeli negotiation process and reaffirmed the intention of Russia and Egypt to facilitate this. They expressed non-acceptance of unilateral steps, primarily settlement activities in the occupied territories which could hinder advance towards the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Certain aspects of Russian-Egyptian cooperation also were touched on. Lavrov and Aboul Gheit voiced the reciprocal disposition to build it further in different fields.
