Dmitry Medvedev met with President of Abkhazia Sergei Bagapsh
OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2008. They discussed issues related to resolving the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.
During the meeting they stressed that any progress in this direction can only be achieved by the implementation of all earlier agreements, notably the Moscow Agreement on a Ceasefire and Separation of Forces of May 14, 1994, and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
Sergei Bagapsh noted the crucial role of Russian peacekeepers in providing security in the conflict zone, and thanked the Russian Federation for supporting the population of Abkhazia and assisting it in addressing its socio-economic and humanitarian problems, the severity of which has been repeatedly pointed out to the UN Security Council.
