Response by Russian MFA about the Situation in Kosovo
OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2008. Question: Reports are coming in that the head of UNMIK, Joachim Rucker, is undertaking steps to wind down the mission in Kosovo. How could you comment upon this?
Answer: These reports are causing our serious concern. It is obvious that any actions with regard to UNMIK or reformatting the international presences in Kosovo are only possible on the basis of a decision of the Security Council of the United Nations. The leaders of the UN Secretariat know this very well. As far as we know, Joachim Rucker has received no such instructions from them.
At issue is flagrant arbitrariness which must be resolutely put an end to. We presume that administrative measures will be taken in respect of Joachim Rucker, up to and including his removal from office.
