Earlier in the day, Mr Medvedev sent Mr Voronin a message of congratulations, in which he said, in particular:

“Russia values your personal contribution to developing the relations between our countries, relations founded on the time-tested traditions of friendship and spiritual closeness between the fraternal peoples of Russia and Moldova.

I hope that our dialogue will help us to develop more actively the great potential we have for bilateral cooperation and facilitate regional stability”.
