OREANDA-NEWS. On April 22, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, who was staying in Kuwait City, met with Emir of Kuwait Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.

An in-depth exchange of views took place on pressing international and regional problems. The identity or similarity of the sides’ approaches to their settlement by politico-diplomatic methods was stated and the keenness on coordinating efforts to prevent the escalation of existing conflicts was reaffirmed. Occupying a special place was discussion of the situation surrounding Iran, Iraq and of the Persian Gulf situation as a whole. The Head of the State of Kuwait received with considerable interest the Russian considerations regarding establishing a system of cooperation and security in this area.

Much attention was paid to questions pertaining to further development of bilateral relations, primarily in the economic, commercial and investment fields, where considerable potential exists for expanding and deepening cooperation. The sides agreed to step up efforts to ensure the sustainable growth of mutually advantageous ties between Russia and Kuwait and to promote the implementation of promising joint projects and the encouragement of investment.
