OREANDA-NEWS. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin shares his desire to solve the territorial problem and conclude a peace treaty between the two states. This was announced by the head of the Japanese government in an interview with the monthly Bungeishunju magazine, the next issue of which went on sale on Thursday.

"We share the desire to solve the territorial problem and conclude a peace treaty", Abe said, emphasizing that he and the president of the Russian Federation have established trusting relationships. The head of the Japanese government also noted that for the remaining two years as prime minister he would like to resolve the issue of a peace treaty with the Russian Federation and the problem of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korean intelligence in the 70s.

“The party’s charter allows only three terms”, he said, once again confirming that he’s not going to be re-elected for the fourth term as chairman of the ruling party, who automatically takes the prime minister’s chair in Japan. Moscow and Tokyo have been negotiating for decades to develop a peace treaty based on the results of World War II.
