Abbas Called the Conditions of Holding Negotiations with Israel
OREANDA-NEWS. President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas declared that he is ready to stay at the UN headquarters in New York to continue negotiations with Israel. He stated this at a meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to the “deal of the century” proposed by the United States.
Earlier in his speech, Abbas rejected Washington’s document for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. After that, he claimed that if the Israeli side is ready for negotiations, and the United Nations, the European Union, the United States of America and the Russian Federation are ready to support them, he can stay too.
In late January, US President Donald Trump proposed a plan to resolve the conflict between Israel and Palestine, which was called the “deal of the century.” The document provides for the creation of two states. According to it, Jerusalem remains to be the capital of Israel, and the Palestinian capital is East Jerusalem. The Temple Mount maintains the status quo. Israel extends sovereignty to the Jordan Valley, Samaria and Judea. Palestine is doubling its territory. At the same time, the Palestinian radical movement Hamas should be disarmed, and the Gaza Strip should be demilitarized.
