OREANDA-NEWS. Poland extradited to Russia a suspect in the murder of a schoolgirl in Komi 27 years ago, said Andrei Ivanov, spokesman for the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.

"The competent authorities of the Republic of Poland are extraditing Semyon Gutsan to Russia to prosecute. He is accused of committing a crime under several paragraphs of Article 102 of the RSFSR Criminal Code (premeditated murder from mercenary motives, by prior conspiracy, by a group of persons)," he said.

According to the investigation, on the night of August 21, 1994, in Syktyvkar, Gutsan and a friend strangled a 14-year-old girl. He disappeared and was put on the international wanted list.

In June 2020, a man was detained in Poland with documents in the name of Ivan Pop, born in 1970. He was identified as Gutsan. After that, the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia sent a request for the extradition of the accused to foreign colleagues.

It is noted that his defense made significant efforts to get the Polish side to take a negative decision on extradition. However, the GPO provided counter-arguments and materials, thanks to which it was possible to obtain a refutation of Gutsan's arguments in court.

The final decision was made by the country's Minister of Justice in September. Gutsan will be delivered to Russia by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service.
