OREANDA-NEWS The Arctic Expeditionary Force and a detachment of Russian Northern Fleet warships have practised anti-submarine tasks in the Norwegian Sea. This was reported by the Ministry of Defence.
The Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser and the Admiral Kasatonov frigate participated in the exercise. Using an anti-submarine helicopter Ka-27M, their crews searched for enemy submarines.
The ministry noted that the exercises were aimed at practising the actions of the Navy and the Aerospace Forces to protect interests in the ocean and counter threats.
According to the plan, the exercises will also take place in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, the north-east Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. More than 140 ships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 pieces of military equipment and around 10,000 servicemen will take part.
On 11 January, Russia launched land exercises near the Ukrainian border in the Smolensk, Belgorod, Bryansk and Voronezh regions amid escalation of the situation around Ukraine.
After NATO announced its expansion into Eastern Europe, the Baltic Fleet sent the corvettes Stoikiy and Soobrazitelny to a long-distance voyage. They were to conduct communication exercises and perform anti-submarine and anti-aircraft defence tasks.
On February 3-8, the Navy is scheduled to conduct exercises in the Atlantic Ocean. Russian authorities moved them outside Ireland's exclusive economic zone at the request of the Irish leadership because of complaints from fishermen.
In addition, from 9-20 February, Russian troops will take part in a joint exercise with the army of Belarus, Union Resolve 2022.
