OREANDA-NEWS. The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline has already been built by 40%, in total, 978 kilometers of pipes have been laid along the bottom of the Baltic Sea, the press service of Gazprom reports.
On Tuesday, in St. Petersburg, within the framework of the V International Arctic Forum "The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue", a working meeting was held between Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller and French Ambassador to Russia Sylvie Bermann. "Separate attention at the meeting was paid to the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 project. It was noted that 978 kilometers of pipes had been laid along the bottom of the Baltic Sea - 40% of the total length of the gas pipeline," the report said.
The parties also discussed cooperation in the gas sector. In particular, it was about the supply of gas. It was noted that France is one of the key markets of Gazprom in Europe. Over five years, exports to the country grew by 58% and in 2018 reached 12.9 billion cubic meters.
Earlier, some Western countries declared possible sanctions against project participants, aggressive publications in leading Western media, and the mobilization of anti-Russian forces in the European Parliament were also observed.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages the construction of two gas pipeline lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. A new pipeline is planned to be completed in 2019. It will pass through the territorial or exclusive economic zones of countries located along the shores of the Baltic Sea - Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Of these countries, Nord Stream 2 AG is left to receive a building permit only from Denmark.
