NATO Chief Declared Intention to Avoid Arms Race with Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Jens Stoltenberg during a meeting of defense ministers of member countries claimed that the alliance wants to avoid a costly arms race with Russia.
According to the politician, to gain this it is necessary to develop new arms control measures in relation to the new generation missiles. This is the plan of action of the NATO after the collapse of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty).
At the same time, Stoltenberg mentioned that NATO countries are worried about the new Russian missile systems. “We will respond in a united way, coordinated, defensive and we have also stated that we are not planning, we don’t have any intentions to deploy nuclear missiles in Europe. We will not mirror what Russia does,” he said.
A day earlier, Stoltenberg said that the abolition of the INF Treaty demonstrated the strength of the NATO, since all the countries of the military bloc agreed on blaming Russia for this.
