OREANDA-NEWS The Latvian authorities on Tuesday, August 20, will put up for auction the cultural center House of Moscow in Riga. This is reported by Prime with reference to the Latvian Official Gazette.
We are talking about an object that was nationalized this winter. The country's authorities are going to use the funds from its sale to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
The building is located on a plot of land with an area of 966 square meters. The initial price of the lot is 3.57 million euros.
Previously, the ownership of the cultural center belonged to the Moscow City Property Department. In January 2024, the Latvian Seimas approved its confiscation, explaining it as "the implementation of hostile and harmful activities" in this room. At the same time, the local cabinet believes that it will not be possible to quickly find a buyer and this year the object is unlikely to be sold.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the seizure of the cultural center as "raiding," promising that Russia would take "tough and extremely painful" actions for Latvia in response.
