OREANDA-NEWS. Russia does not plan aggressive actions towards Ukraine. This was announced on Thursday, February 10, by the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin.
According to him, "dangerous lies" about Russia's plans to invade Ukraine began to spread from the United States, and then with the help of European media.
“The main threat to Ukraine is the intra-Ukrainian armed conflict between the Kiev regime and the [self-proclaimed] Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics,” the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
This conflict can only be resolved through diplomatic means, Naryshkin concluded.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on February 8 that the European Union believes that Russia is not seeking to seize Ukraine, but is only putting pressure on it to revise the security architecture in Europe.
On February 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that statements about Russia's aggression "at least do not correspond to sound logic." He also pointed out that the further expansion of NATO to the borders of the Russian Federation poses a threat, and in the event of a military conflict between Russia and the alliance, there will be no winners.
The United States and a number of European countries have recently expressed concern over the alleged increase in Russia's "aggressive actions" against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied such accusations, saying that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as an excuse to place as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation.
At the end of January, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was not going to start a war with Ukraine, and Western countries and the United States were “hysterically” developing the topic of a threat from the Russian Federation instead of forcing Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements.
