OREANDA-NEWS  Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un have signed an agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership between their two countries. This new agreement replaces previous fundamental documents signed between Russia and North Korea in 1961, 2000, and 2001.

During the negotiations with the DPRK chairman, the Russian president described the treaty as a "fundamental document that will form the foundation of our relations for the long term".

The signing ceremony took place after the Russian-North Korean talks in an extended format, as well as a long one-on-one meeting between Putin and Kim.

Both the Russian and North Korean delegations attending the signing ceremony welcomed the leaders with applause. After exchanging copies of the agreement, Putin and Kim left the signing room together.
