OREANDA-NEWS Moldova can resume gas purchases from Russian Gazprom in full if the proposed price turns out to be attractive, said the head of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic Viktor Parlikov, speaking on the Chisinau TV channel TV-8.

An agreement with Gazprom to extend the gas supply contract was reached in October 2021, subject to an audit of Moldovagaz's debt in 2022. However, the Russian side has repeatedly warned about the possible complete cessation of supplies due to delays in concluding an agreement to settle the company's historical debt. The main negotiator from Moldova was the acting Minister of Infrastructure Andrei Spynu. At the moment, the contract between Moldovagaz and Gazprom continues to operate, but the volume of supplies is limited to 5.7 million cubic meters, which are sent to Transnistria in exchange for electricity. The rest of the country provides for its needs at the expense of reserves and gas purchased by the state-owned company Energocom on the spot market.

"If Gazprom's price is lower than that of other suppliers, then why not. However, final purchasing decisions in the republic will be made on the basis of economic feasibility and real volumes of offers," Parlikov said, answering a question about possible gas purchases from a Russian supplier.
