OREANDA-NEWS. Militants tried to attack the Russian air base Khmeimim located at the territory of Syrian Arab Republic. This was reported by the head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Opposing Sides, Major General Yury Borenkov.

The incident occurred in the evening of December 23. Terrorists used unmanned aerial vehicles during the attack.

Borenkov noted that the Russian air defense systems discovered and destroyed two drones, which were sent to the air base from the southeast.

As the officer said, there were no casualties and material damage as a result of the incident. The air base is operating as planned.

The militants try to attacks Khmeimim with the help of drones regularly. They suspend explosives and destructive elements on drones and launch them towards the air base. One of the last attacks occurred on September 3.
