OREANDA-NEWS  Suspected militants were located in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and opened fire in response to an offer of surrender, according to the information center of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, as reported by Interfax.

During operational search activities in the Kabardino-Balkaria region, security agencies received information about the location of armed individuals involved in terrorist activity. Tonight, they were surrounded by FSB special forces in the Nasty Garden area of Nalchik City District, the NAC said.

To ensure the safety of civilians in the area where the militants were identified, the head of the local FSB department imposed a counter-terrorism operation, the department explained.

In response to an offer to lay down arms and surrender, the militants opened fire on police officers, according to NAC reports.
