OREANDA-NEWS Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, compared the special operation in Ukraine with the events in Georgia in 2008 and said that the current military campaign would also end with Russia's victory. The corresponding publication appeared on his page on the social network X.

"In 2008, we defended our people and defended the interests of our country after the raid of this Saakashvili. The current military campaign will also end with an unconditional victory for Russia," the publication says.

August 8 is the anniversary of the beginning of the Russian—Georgian conflict, which broke out in 2008 due to the massive shelling of Tskhinvali, the capital of South Ossetia, by Tbilisi. The fighting lasted only five days, and its result was the rupture of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Russia, as well as Moscow's recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Prior to that, Medvedev stated the need to learn a serious lesson from the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region and "mercilessly defeat and destroy the enemy."

Earlier, Medvedev called for its "extraterritorial character."
