Lavrov Discusses Contacts between Countries with Biden in Rome
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described his meeting with US President Joe Biden at the G20 summit in Rome as useful, and stressed the American leader's focus on further contacts with Russia.
"Yesterday we had lunch for all the leaders of delegations at the G20 summit, during which we had a short but useful conversation with President Biden, who conveyed his best greetings to Vladimir Putin and stressed his focus on further contacts," the Russian foreign minister said on the Russia-1 TV channel.
According to him, he has already conveyed all the information to the Russian leader. Furthermore, Lavrov called the data useful for further scheduling.
Lavrov reported on the meeting with Biden during the dinner at the G20 summit on 30 October. At the same time, he said, he did not see his US counterpart Anthony Blinken at the event.
On 24 October, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there was an understanding that the next meeting between Putin and Biden should take place in the foreseeable future. According to him, when the presidents make a decision to this effect, this will be announced immediately.
For her part, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that a meeting between Putin and Biden before the end of 2021 was in question. She also stressed that Biden is involved in diplomacy with those with whom he has both agreement and differences.
