OREANDA-NEWS. Following the complete break in relations with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the Council of Europe, Russia may do the same with the European Union, Konstantin Kosachev, deputy chairman of the Federation Council, wrote on the Telegram channel. In his opinion, this will happen if the EU continues to go beyond its competence.
Things have already come to a complete break with the Council of Europe and the ECtHR. It came about precisely because these structures went beyond the limits of their competence and invaded the internal affairs of Russia. It will be the same with the European Union if they do not return to their own borders,” he said.
Thus, the senator commented on the statement of the European Commission that the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on paying for gas in rubles is a violation of EU sanctions. He added that the sanctions violate international law, the sovereignty of Russia, as well as the rights of those countries in the community that would like to continue cooperation with the Russian Federation.
According to Kosachev, earlier the ECHR tried to get Russia to change the Constitution, and now it calls the decision of the president of a country that is not part of the EU illegal.
Earlier, the senator said that one should not count on the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions. The West is ready to make significant economic sacrifices, including the refusal of gas supplies, in order to maintain its "advantages", he stressed.
