OREANDA-NEWS Nuclear weapons in Russia often get female names, and artillery objects get "floral" names because of tradition. This is reported by the newspaper MK.RU.
The journalists analyzed the tradition of naming samples of Russian weapons. The authors noticed that weapons often receive ironic and friendly names. So, the Volna-R cartridges were called "Hello", the shatterproof blanket was called "Comfort", and the legendary BM—13 rocket artillery machine was called "Katyusha". Women's names are often assigned to nuclear weapons: tactical atomic bomb RDS-4 — "Tatiana", 8U49 — "Natasha".
The article says that artillery is often given "floral" names: 152-millimeter self-propelled howitzer 2C3 "Acacia", 120-millimeter self-propelled mortar 2C8 "Astra", 152-millimeter self-propelled gun 2C5 "Hyacinth". "When fired, the force of the flame at the muzzle of the barrel, together with the green trunk itself, resemble an open flower," explained the Research Enterprise "Burevestnik", which developed the "Astra".
