OREANDA-NEWS Since March 2022, a total of about $ 2.3 billion in US and European Union (EU) banknotes have been sent to Russia, contrary to the current ban of Western countries on exporting their cash to the Russian Federation. This is reported by Reuters with reference to a source.
We are talking about the flow of dollar and euro banknotes to Russia. The ban on such exports came into force in March 2022 against the background of the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. Thus, according to the agency, during this period of time, the Russian authorities managed to create an effective mechanism to circumvent Western sanctions against the import of cash into the Russian Federation.
According to an unnamed commercial supplier, cash dollars and euros were sent to Russia through friendly countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey. At the same time, according to the source who registers information on the flow of banknotes, the reports did not indicate the state through which more than 50 percent of cash in dollars and euros was received in the Russian Federation.
Pavel Samiev, director of the Businessdrom analytical agency, previously reported on Russia's ability to import cash dollars and euros after an official ban on such actions by the US and EU authorities. According to him, it is possible to import such banknotes into the Russian Federation with the help of third countries in private. At the same time, such operations, as the expert claimed, will not affect the Russian economy, since the exchange rate is determined in the market where non-cash payments are carried out.
