OREANDA-NEWS Russia has almost stopped grain supplies to the countries of the community against the background of the introduction of increased duties by the European Union. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to Eurostat data.
As it became known to the agency, the cost of September shipments amounted to only 21 thousand euros, while in June, before the restrictions came into force, Europeans bought grain from the Russian Federation for 11.8 million euros.
In general, in the first autumn month of 2024, the country exported 5.76 million tons of basic grain crops, which is a quarter less than a year earlier. Noticeably, from 52 to 33 countries, the geography of domestic wheat supplies has also narrowed. The top 3 of its largest buyers included Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey.
The prohibitive tariffs approved by the EU Council (its statement explicitly stated its intention to achieve a complete cessation of supplies) for grain imports from Russia and Belarus entered into force on July 1. Depending on the specific product, the duties increased either by 95 euros per ton or up to 50 percent. At the same time, the restrictions did not apply to grain going to third countries through European ports.
