OREANDA-NEWS. Iraqi authorities resumed negotiations with Russia on the acquisition of S-300 anti-aircraft systems.

This was reported by Muhammad Rida, the head of the Security and Defense Committee of national parliament. According to him, Baghdad expects “opposition” from the United States on this matter. “It was supposed that this issue should have been resolved a long time ago: a few months ago after the attacks on the bases of Shiite militia Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi in Baghdad and other provinces, the need for this weapon appeared, and the responsible party resumed negotiations on a contract on S-300,” Rida said. The politician added that he does not know at what stage the deal is, but permission from the top leadership of Iraq was received.
