OREANDA-NEWS The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran will address, among other issues, defense and security. The details of the agreement were disclosed by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Ismail Baghi, according to TASS.

"Trade and economic issues, energy, as well as defense and security are an important part of it. This agreement will update and supplement the existing 2001 agreement," the diplomat said. According to him, since then, Tehran and Moscow have significantly expanded the scope of cooperation.

Earlier, the details of the content of the agreement were disclosed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the treaty pays special attention to strengthening cooperation in the interests of peace and security at the regional and global levels, and enshrines the desire of Moscow and Tehran for closer cooperation in the fields of security, defense, combating terrorism and extremism, and countering many other common challenges and threats.
