OREANDA-NEWS The authorities of the Rostov region expect a decrease in the yield of oilseeds against the background of prolonged high weather temperatures, the governor of the region Vasily Golubev told a local TV channel.

"Today we need to preserve what has been removed (cereals and legumes - IF) and remove the second part. We see risks for corn and other crops. Probably, the yield of oilseeds will be lower, again due to high temperatures," he said.

According to him, the harvest of early grain amounted to 10.9 million tons, the yield was 33 kg/ha.

"Last year there was an all-time record harvest of 16.4 million tons. Of course, in comparison with this harvest, there is a noticeable decrease - about 30%. The average yield decreased by 11.4 c/ha," Golubev said.

A good rice harvest is expected. "I hope it will be good with rice, as the Ministry of Agriculture (of the region) informs today," the governor explained.

According to him, in general, about 20% of agricultural land in the region is insured. "This is significantly more than it was before. To date, 74 applications have been submitted to insurance companies for payments in connection with the loss of crops on an area of up to 300 hectares. The amount of damage according to the applications is approximately 882 million rubles," Golubev said, adding that currently part of the payments in the amount of 95.6 million rubles have been made. Payments will be made before the end of this year.

A high-alert regime for soil drought has been introduced in the region since June 4, and a regional emergency regime has been introduced since June 11. Golubev stated that due to the May frosts and the subsequent prolonged drought, farmers in the region may lose up to 30% of the harvest.

The total acreage in the Rostov region in 2024 is about 4.9 million hectares.
