OREANDA-NEWS In the Moscow region, a court sentenced a resident of Kaliningrad and a Chinese citizen to a high-security colony for smuggling 813 kilograms of amber. About this said the official representative of the Moscow region department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) Olga Vradiy.

The men were found guilty on two counts. The Chinese will stay in prison for nine years, and the Russian for seven years.

According to the investigation, in 2021, the convicts purchased 813 kilograms of amber in raw materials. Of the specified mass, 99 kilograms of amber worth 4.3 million rubles were sent to China via mail from Sheremetyevo Airport. At the same time, 48 kilograms worth 2.8 million rubles were seized by the security forces at the Sheremetyevo airport customs post.

Smugglers managed to prepare another 373 kilograms of amber worth 2 million rubles for shipment. The stone was kept by a Chinese man in a house in Domodedovo, but during the search it was seized. 293 kilograms of amber worth 4.5 million rubles were moved through the customs post of the Kaliningrad region, but the security forces also managed to seize it. As a result, by their actions, the convicts caused damage to the state totaling more than 13.5 million rubles.

Earlier in Yakutia, a 51-year-old native of the Amur region was detained with gold worth 100 million rubles.
