Before that 56-year-old Patricia Ortega became the first woman who received the rank of lieutenant colonel and colonel of ground forces. Currently, the Spanish Armed Forces have 15,000 women, which represents 12.7% of the total number of military personnel.
Earlier it was reported that the Army of Slovenia was headed by Major General Alenka Ermenc, who became the first woman appointed head of the Armed Forces of NATO.
