OREANDA-NEWS Russia has not introduced new requirements for migrant workers, but has tightened the implementation of existing standards, she said in a conversation with Lenta.<url>" State Duma deputy Svetlana Bessarab. She explained that illegal migrants did not benefit the country's economy, and therefore their absence would not have a negative impact.

"We have always had requirements for the quality of migrant workers. For example, should a person coming to our country to work understand the language and culture? Of course I have to. But often migrant drivers did not even understand where to go and where to stop. It shouldn't be like this, it wasn't supposed to be like this. For this reason, in particular, fines for covering up illegal migration have been tightened," the politician said.

Illegal migrants, she said, have filled the shadow market, which does not help the country's economy in any way. Moreover, the politician stressed that such practices create problems in ensuring law and order and public safety.

"No one prohibits labor migration. If someone wants to come and work in our country, they have the right to do so. So employers can attract ordinary migrants. Now clear and transparent processes have been built," Bessarab stressed.

She also admitted that the outflow of migrants observed today may be associated not only with stricter requirements, but also with problems transferring money to other countries. The politician suggested that for a number of migrants, working in Russia might not be so profitable.

Earlier it became known that since the beginning of 2024, a million migrants have left Russia. At the same time, their average earnings in the manufacturing sector during the year ranged from 105 thousand rubles to 150 thousand rubles.
