OREANDA-NEWS Russian medical universities began to raise the prices of paid tuition. The reason for the rise in prices in educational institutions is called inflation and the economic situation due to the pandemic and the special operation, Kommersant reports.
The cost of training for the first year in the specialty "Medical business" in the Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov increased the most, they were changed from 415 to 650 thousand rubles (the total cost for six courses increased from 2.82 to 4.48 million rubles). A year in the specialty "Dentistry" has risen in price from 450 to 700 thousand rubles (increased from 2.49 to 3.91 million rubles for six years of study).
Prices for training in the specialty "Dentistry" at St. Petersburg State University (St. Petersburg State University) increased by 12 percent, from 308 to 355.4 thousand rubles. Studying "Medical business" at St. Petersburg State University has become 13 percent more expensive, prices have changed from 269 to 310.1 thousand rubles. In various regional universities, tariffs have been raised from 5 to 20 percent. The rise in the price of education is due to the economic situation, due to the pandemic and the special operation, explained Alexey Demidov, chairman of the Council of Rectors of Universities in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. According to him, the costs of universities have increased "by a considerable percentage." Universities are trying to close the shortage of personnel in medicine by allocating budget places for the target set, which applicants try to avoid, added Ivan Davydov, a member of the St. Petersburg branch of the union of medical workers "Action".
"Now for applicants there is a choice only between the target direction and a paid place. Therefore, the already high demand for paid studies has grown additionally. This allows universities to raise the price," he said.
In the 2023/24 academic year, tuition at leading Russian universities from the top 10 according to the rating agency RAEX has risen by an average of 12 percent. The price of higher education in MEPhI has increased the most — by 18-22 percent. Thus, training in the programs "information systems and technologies" and "software engineering" has risen in price from 286 to 340 thousand rubles per year. In RANEPA, the price has increased to 12 percent: for example, for training in the departments of "Economics and Business Management" and "World Economy and Foreign Economic Activity" you will have to pay 460 instead of 410 thousand rubles.
