OREANDA-NEWS Russia has defined a list of types of plastic packaging that should be banned from use from 2024. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has prepared a final list of containers and sent it to the government for approval, Kommersant writes.
We are talking about a draft resolution banning polymer goods and packaging, waste from which cannot be disposed of or is poorly extracted. The document specifies 23 types of packaging, the use of six of which is planned to be restricted from 2024, and the remaining 17 — from 2030. The newspaper's sources claim that the document can be considered final — it did not cause disagreements with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Economy. At the same time, the list has been reduced by five positions compared to the previous version.
Starting next year, translucent PET bottles of non-standard colors (except blue, green, black and brown), opaque PET bottles (except white for dairy products), as well as PET packaging made using PVC labels that interfere with recycling should be banned. In addition, the restrictions will affect multilayer PET bottles, coffee capsules made of multicomponent materials and plastic containers for canned food with a metal lid. Such packaging cannot be completely divided into components and is therefore difficult to recycle.
