OREANDA-NEWS A mass death of small fish occurred in the Northern Reservoir of Rostov-on-Don, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Rostov region reported.

"In the absence of natural flow and a long period of high temperatures, the concentration of dissolved oxygen in the water decreases, causing hypoxia and, as a result, starvation of fish in the reservoir," the department explained. There were no signs of wastewater discharge or disposal of any waste.

Specialists of the district administration cleared the shores of the reservoir of extinct fish.

Since the beginning of July, extremely hot weather has been established in the Rostov region, which, according to forecasters, will continue until the end of the week.
