In Mali, Military Units Fomented a Mutiny
OREANDA-NEWS. In the suburbs of Bamako, a capital city of the Republic of Mali (West Africa), army units incited a mutiny.
This was reported on August 18 by Reuters news agency, citing military sources. “Yes, mutiny. The military has taken up arms,” one of journalists’ interlocutors said. The publication informs about the firing at the army base located in the suburb of Bamako.
The Norwegian Embassy in Mali confirmed that the army units located in the suburbs of the capital of the country rebelled. “The Embassy has been notified of the mutiny in the Armed Forces. Troops are marching to Bamako,” the diplomatic mission said in a statement. “Norwegian citizens should exercise caution and stay in their homes until the situation is clarified.”
It is known that Mali’s anti-government opposition has called for widespread protests to begin on August 18. One of its main demands is the immediate resignation of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
