In Kazan, FSB of Russia Detained Five Members of a Terrorist Cell
OREANDA-NEWS. The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) suppressed the activities of a cell of the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in the country; five members of the group were arrested for propaganda and recruitment.
“In the city of Kazan, the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir were suppressed, five of its members were detained,” the report of the FSB Public Relations Center reported.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainees. Investigators found that the suspects were planning to contribute to the creation of the so called worldwide caliphate. Their activities were aimed at overthrowing the government of the Russian Federation, the FSB noted. Cell members spread terrorist ideology among the residents of the Republic of Tatarstan and recruited them into the ranks of Islamism extremists.
