OREANDA-NEWS Over the 10 years of the food embargo, the Russian Federation has formed one of the most competitive, flexible and technologically advanced agricultural markets in the world, the Ministry of Agriculture notes.

"Today, we not only provide ourselves with all the basic food products in the widest range, but also have one of the most competitive, flexible and technologically advanced markets in the world. Russian companies are able to produce almost everything they need and adapt to any external conditions - this was well proven by the situation in 2022-2023, when a number of foreign brands left the country. As in 2014, the vacant niches were quickly occupied by domestic businesses, and consumers did not feel any changes," Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut told Interfax. Her words were conveyed by the press service of the department.

The Minister also stressed that the trends of recent years allow us to talk about the course of the Russian Federation for the intensive development of the agricultural sector and strengthening its position as a guarantor of global food security.

The food embargo was introduced ten years ago by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated August 6, 2014 (No. 560) "On the application of certain special economic measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation." Within its framework, the import of agricultural products and food to the Russian Federation from countries that imposed or supported anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the annexation of Crimea was banned. The vacant niches were filled primarily by domestic manufacturers.
