Executive Secretary of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation (HRC) Alexander Tochenov believes that the demand in society for the abolition of the moratorium on the death penalty appears due to high-profile court cases and the release of dangerous criminals, however, according to the opinion, to return such a measure of punishment for now do not.

Earlier, the results of the VTsIOM poll showed that Russians would like to abolish the moratorium on the death penalty in modern Russia, toughen the punishment for corruption, abolish the pension reform and the Unified State Exam, and also reduce taxes.

Tochenov told RIA Novosti that “people remember the death penalty, because, unfortunately, grave crimes are committed, and they are heard. We do not pay attention to trifles, but we look at serious things, of course. And when they are released systemic rapists and murderers, this raises the question of what will happen next. Of course, everyone is afraid for themselves, for their loved ones. "

According to him, there are some things that require serious punishment, but, on the other hand, we have no right to take a person's life, we did not give it.

The HRC executive secretary stressed that it is too early to talk about the abolition of the moratorium on the death penalty, because the judicial system does not work smoothly everywhere and law enforcement agencies make mistakes.
