OREANDA-NEWS  Chinese geologists have discovered gold reserves worth about $82.8 billion at a deposit in the central province of Hunan, the Geological Department of the province reported.

According to the Department's message on the WeChat social network, geologists have discovered more than 40 gold-bearing veins at a depth of more than 2 thousand meters at the Wangu gold deposit in Pingjiang County. It is noted that a total of 300.2 tons of gold reserves were discovered in the main exploration area, where the highest gold content in the ore was 138 grams per ton.

""Experts agreed that the scale of ore deposits in the Wangu gold deposit is huge. It is assumed that at a depth of more than 3 thousand meters, gold reserves will amount to more than a thousand tons, and the cost of resources will reach 600 billion yuan (82.8 billion dollars), based on the current price of gold," the message says.
According to the World Gold Council, China accounted for about 10% of gold production in 2023.
