Germany and Austria Intend to Open the Border on June 15
OREANDA-NEWS. The authorities of Germany and Austria are going to fully open on June 15 the common border, which was previously closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported on May 13 by the Austrian Press Agency, citing the office of the Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz.
According to the Austrian media, German Chancellor Angela Merkel presented the border opening plan on Tuesday. On May 13, small border crossings were opened for use by residents of border regions in the German federal state of Bavaria and the Austrian federal state of Upper Austria. In the future, border crossings should also open in Austrian Tyrol and German Salzburg.
In March, Austria introduced sanitary and border control at the borders in order to combat the spread of COVID-19. People arriving in Austria are ordered to be self-isolated for 14 days (for persons residing in this country) or to provide a medical certificate with a negative result of the test for coronavirus issued not earlier than four days before.
